Plain wood is the single most important item in Minecraft, and if you don’t have any, you are missing out on a lot of what Minecraft has to offer. Wood is the most fundamental item you will have to go after, since without it, you are not able to construct your crafting table. In turn, this means you won’t be able to create your pick axe, which translates into no ore mining and no Minecraft luxuries whatsoever. Without wood, all you’d be able to do is build dirt houses. In short, wood is the most precious thing in Minecraft, but there are only three wood types available, and they can only be used to create a single plank type. A little more variety would have been far better, and this is what the Premium Wood mod is attempting to provide.

Designed by scokeev9, the Premium wood mod adds new tree types, which make for quite an experience when harvested. It’s not just the colors that change, it’s what you can do with wood; every wood type can now be crafted as swords, and the attributes of the raw material are different too. Below you can see the main differences.

Premium Wood Mod Features

• Maple tree: orange&black color.
• Sliver bell tree: white&green color.
• Magic trees: Exercise caution when planting, as there is a decent possibility of them exploding in your face. Their leaves are green but their wood is black.
• Purple heart trees: As its name implies, this one is purple. Planks made out of these change color over time.
• Wood bordered glass: This makes for a nice visual effect. Put a piece of glass in the middle of your crafting table, and surround it from both sides with the plank of your choice.

• Tigerwood: Tiger-like color pattern
• Willow trees: Somewhat green.

Premium Wood Download and installation instructions

• As a preventative measure, backup the contents of your .minecraft folder which can be found by typing %appdata%\.minecraft in the run prompt of your Start menu.
• Download and install ModLoader and Scot Tools API. Before proceeding to the next step, do a test run to make sure your game works properly at this stage.
• Download the Premium woods mod.
• Open the mod’s zip file and add the files contained in the “add to minecraft.jar” folder into your minecraft.jar file. The latter is located in .minecraft\bin (see step 1) and can be opened with a compression utility.
• Have fun playing and please report any problems with the mod!

This is another excellent mod that is well worth your time trying it. Its purpose is to provide a showcase for the items that you are storing. More specifically, it gives you an alternative to just putting all your stuff in a chest and then having to go through all of your chests in order to find what you need. This one lets you put your things on shelves, which makes finding them all that much easier. And it looks that much better on the eye too!

The shelves resemble stairs made of wood, and your items appear on top if they contain things. The only issue is that they can only display items in a 3×3 format, which means you can put 9 items on display, so it is recommended that you showcase the most valuable ones or the ones that you use most often. In the end it is a matter of personal preference, but this mod is a neat addition to Minecraft.

Installation instructions for Shelves Shelf Mod

• Get ModLoader from the download link.
• Get the Shelves Shelf Mod from the download link.
• In your system drive, go to Users\{username}\Appdata\Roaming, and in there, find and open .minecraft\bin
• Open the Minecraft java archive (minecraft.jar) with an appropriate program like WinRar, Winzip, 7zip and the like.
• Delete the META INF folder in your open archive.
• Drag and drop ModLoader files into the open Minecraft.jar.
• Repeat previous step for the files of the mod as well.
• You’re ready to play your enhanced game. Have fun!

If you’re happily playing Minecraft and then, all of a sudden, the game starts lagging, this mod provides for a simple, quick and easy solution to your problem. In previous versions of Minecraft, you were able to press the F key to change the game’s fog settings on the fly. However, in the latest version, this feature was removed by Notch, Minecraft’s designer. The mod brings this functionality back. Surely, manually going to the game’s video settings and lowering the rendering distance is not too much to ask for, but the F key is so much simpler and quicker. It is particularly useful if, for instance, you are making a video and suddenly hit a short lag spike; simply hit F and the lag is gone in a heartbeat.

You can also go to the Minecraft controls area and change the F hotkey to any other key you may prefer instead.

And what is really fantastic about this mod is that it contains a track builder, so that you can lay down your own routes for your fixed-track machinery. If you like speed on rails, this mod was made for you.

In short, this is a mod for MInecraft version 1.0.0 that adds new transport possibilities. Its offerings are a lot better than the original minecarts, and the new textures on each train are neat. We can only say well done to its developer, SPitFire4466, for a well thought-out mod.

Installation instructions for Trains and Zeppelin Mod

• Locate your minecraft.jar by going to Start menu, then run, and type “%appdata%>.minecraft>bins” (no quotes).
• Backup your minecraft.jar just in case something goes wrong.
• Now open the .jar with WinRar or equivalent program.
• Delete the Meta-inf folder in the archive.
• Download and install Modloader and run Minecraft to make sure you don’t get a black screen. Exit Minecraft and drag and drop everything inside Modloader into the open archive that you opened before.
• Download and install ModloaderMP using the same procedure (step 5).
• You can optionally download Audiomod.
• Download Trains and Zeppelin Mod.
• Extract TrainConfig.txt into the main .minecraft folder.
• Extract the resources folder that you’ll find inside the mod’s zip file into the .minecraft folder as well, and let your computer merge the content of the two folders.
• Open the folder named “jar files” inside the mod’s zip file, and then drag and drop its content into minecraft.jar.

If you’re looking for a new way to explore the Minecraft world, this one is for you. The Hot Air Balloon mod gives you the ability to do this from up in the air. The mod is particularly suitable for those of you who prefer the vanilla (stock) Minecraft version, since it does not really change the game but only adds some extra functionality. With it, you are simply able to view the world from above. This in stark contrast to the “Fly” mod, which does not require you to craft things and can almost be considered cheating.
